Water Quality Testing Laboratory (WQTL) of NGO Forum is the first certified laboratory in the NGO of Bangladesh equipped with modern technologies i.e. Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS), The Laboratory runs as a revenue generating unit with capability of testing 39 water quality parameters including arsenic and pathogens at a cheaper rate.

 

Objective

Provide sustainable access to quality testing facilities for both drinking and wastewater to sectoral stakeholders ranges from the community to government and non-government organizations, international agencies and private sector actors at a competitive price.

Service Delivery Mechanism

Individuals or organization can access service facilities directly from the laboratory or through nearest regional office of NGO Forum. Since the sample collection, preservation and transport plays a vital role on overall quality of test the laboratory much more concerned on the issues. Usually WQTL provide sample collection containers and written instruction of sample collection procedure as the collection and preservation techniques vary from parameter to parameter.

Services other than water quality test at laboratory like field test, MicroKit, training on water quality/arsenic mitigation issues, training/orientation on sample collection etc. can also be rendered directly from WQTL or through concerned regional office.

 

Quality Assurance & Quality control

The laboratory has designed, developed and documented its policies, systems, procedures and instructions in a way that assures the quality of tests and calibration results. The WQTL follows a standard quality control procedure to monitor the validity of its tests and calibration. The test results are also crosschecked by comparative analysis with different national and international reference laboratories. The laboratory has been recognized nationally and internationally through different performance evaluation exercise organized by WHO, IAEA, BCSIR etc. The WQTL scored 100% in the latest inter-laboratory compare is on exercise (Round Robin #7) conducted by BCSIR.

Under the Development Communication services issue-based Posters were developed taking the vulnerabilities of different eco-zones into account. The Posters were widely disseminated among the community people to make them aware on safe water, sanitation and hygiene issues. It made the development initiatives of NGO Forum more meaningful and effective. Billboards with pictorial messages were used as significant IEC/BCC material and were set up at strategic points of the rural areas in collaboration with the Union Parishads, Partner NGOs and the local allies. In addition, Display Charts were exhibited at Union Parishads, school libraries and Upazila Parishads incorporating information on safe WaSH issues for raising awareness of members of LGIs, school students &teachers for their effective & efficient role in WaSH, health & environment promotion.

Hygiene Promotion Package for adaptation to personal hygiene in different ecological zones was developed following the PHAST Approach. The Package targeted the community people for bringing about behavioral and attitudinal changes among them. Flyer on water vulnerabilities and water-borne diseases was produced to disseminate Information among community people, VDC members, teachers, religious leaders, UP and PNGO staffs to make them aware about safe water use. A Community Mobilization Package on WaSH & health was developed to guide conduction of different community mobilization programmes including orientations, meetings, hygiene sessions and campaign. Flip Charts developed during the year were used by the trainers, field staff, PNGO staff, and social activists, VDC members to increase awareness and practices on the five major behavioral domains to prevent WaSH & Health vulnerabilities especially in HtR areas of rural Bangladesh.

To help the community leaders and selected Caretakers get trained on construction & maintenance of the sanitation facilities, Manual on Proper Installation and Maintenance of User-friendly Latrine in Hard-to-Reach Areas was developed. Besides, a Water Technology Operation/Caretakers’ Manual was developed targeting community leaders,Caretakers & Partner NGOs. Significant number of copies of the Manuals was distributed among the respective audiences to ensure the proper installation and maintenance by the Caretakers and community beneficiaries at rural level.

Training Sevive.

NGO Forum has one central and thirteen well established Regional Training Centres with residential training facilities. The Central and Regional Training Centres are equipped with modern training logistics and aids. The partner organizations and other development organizations/agencies may contact at Central or Regional Training Centres at least one month in advance.

How to Apply

Both the Training Centre services at Central and Regional level of NGO Forum are rented out to other organizations for the purpose of conducting training, workshop, seminar, symposium, discussion forum, etc. Desiring organization/agencies will need to apply in writing to the Head, Training Cell for Central Training Centre and respective Regional Manager for Regional Training Center at least one month prior to the event.
